Please ensure you have completed the prerequisite course before attending this course.

This is a limited attendance course that focuses on the development of practical microscope skills and microscope assay skills of soils, composts and liquid extracts using a microscope.

Bring your own, or use on of the three high quality microscopes to prepare samples and slides, understand how to use a microscope and how to conduct a microbial assay.

This workshop is of great benefit to semi-professional and professional growers who use natural or organic bioenhancing soil fertility approaches and who want to monitor their soil health and/or aerobic and facultative ferments themselves or in a group session.

Session 1 Topics include:

  • Understand the features and functions of a biological microscope
  • How to prepare a sample
  • How to prepare a slide
  • Identifying the different microorganisms

Session 2 Topics include:

  • Revision of using a microscope, sample & slide preparation
  • Microbial assay techniques for standardised results
  • Group assessment of selected soil, compost and liquid extract samples

Workshop structure is a combination of short presentation and practical microscope skills.

Based on Attendees interest – a general microscope group session may be advertised for those who which to return to use the microscopes as a group for both the sharing experience and also to continue to build experience.

Cost:    $90.00 per person per session ($180 total – microscope access included)

Microscope Kit:  Must be purchased in advance from website or on day for personal use
Kit includes: Scale, Slides, Coverslips, Pipette, Lens Cleaner, 2 x Sample Container

Duration:  2 Hours

Microscope: 2 persons per microscope

Times:  SESSION 1 – Saturday 14 October:  10:00am  – 12:00pm

SESSION 2 – Sunday 15 October: 10:00am – 12:00pm


You are welcome to make a tea or coffee using the facilities, however I would also appreciate if you washed your mug when you are finished.
