When do we Substitute Bulbs with Clove Packs?

We will always maintain our seed quality standards and, where possible, supply bulbs that meet size and seed quality.

However, in some seasons and in some cultivars, we may substitute a bulb with separated cloves.

This occurs when seasonal conditions produce a large number of bulbs with fewer cloves; for example, a 60mm 5-clove Turban rather than 7-9 cloves, or a 3-clove Italian Pink (Subtropical) rather than 5 cloves.  Or when we run out of stock, we may combine the largest cloves from bulbs that were stabbed during harvest to ensure you receive your favourite cultivars.

Our cultivar web pages list an average number of plantable cloves, and understandably, you would be disappointed if you received a bulb with only 5 rather than 7-9 cloves, or 3 rather than 5 cloves.

This is the main reason we choose to substitute clove packs rather than supply you a bulb with fewer cloves.

We will always ensure you receive medium- and large-sized cloves that we have quality-checked, and more cloves than a standard bulb produces in that season, so you will never be disadvantaged.

We value your custom and will always strive to be generous with your orders.
