These are my genetic lines that I have created through true garlic seed breeding techniques or through isolation and purification of mutated genetic lines.
True garlic seed creation of new genetic lines is a fascinating and length process, allowing the creation of new cultivars from cross-pollination within the same genetic line, within the same garlic group, or between two garlic groups. It can take up to 7 years to reach a commercial size with the desired consistency and persistency of the characteristics that are selected and then purified. And the results are amazing.
Mutations through bulb generations or bulbils happen infrequently, but when they do it can be very exciting. From a single bulb, multiple generations are produced and with each generation, only the healthiest, most vigorous bulbs that continue to produce the new characteristics are grown on so that the final new genetic line is pure, consistent and unique. Creating this new lines takes between 5 and 6 years to bring to the seed quality and size for sale.
